A passion for working with veterans.
Many, if not most of them, return from the military and combat missions with little or no support reentering civilian life. They carry with them the emotional, mental, and moral wounds and scars from what they have seen, what they have done, and their participation in combat situation. The effects of this type of trauma often creates Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and if the situation is not corrected as soon as possible, it causes the veteran to isolate and avoid social encounters. Anything can serve as a trigger that causes the veteran to relive a disturbing memory or suffer flashbacks and nightmares because of the emotional trauma created by the event. My goal is to assist the veteran in facing the maladaptive thoughts originated by the event and create adaptive thoughts for regaining control of their emotions and self-esteem, and restoring their sense of belonging.
